Cosmopolitan Las Vegas Room Pics!!

We are here, checked in and VERY impressed by everything we have seen so far. The place is just stunning! From the ever changing pillars in the lobby to the 3 story crystal chandelier, everything is absolutely gorgeous.

The room is as nice as everything else we have seen. We are on th 68th floor of the "Eastside" Tower (closest to the strip) and have an incredible view of City Center and everything south. The room is filled with all of the whiz-bang technology found in ARIA and I will do a full review shortly but the one cool feature of the room is a large cutaway in the wall between the living area and bathroom. Pretty interesting... I will also get full public areas pics posted later this evening. For now, enjoy pics of a Cosmopolitan Terrace Suite.

Cabana at Mandalay Beach!

To contact us Click HERE

With having to do a lot of work travel lately, I was seriously in need for a long overdue trip to Vegas. This one was 4 nights; 2 at THEhotel at Mandalay Bay, 1 at Boulder Station and the last at Treasure Island. I choose THEhotel because I usually have some sort of offer, the rooms are nice and what better place for some pool time? Boulder Station was on the list because it's been almost 10 years since I last stayed there and the rooms have finally been remodeled. It's been even longer since my last stay at TI, going all the way back to 1995!

The highlight definitely was getting a cabana at Mandalay Bay. We aren't usually cabana people but we decided to splurge on this trip and there is no better pool in Vegas. Having a "home" made staying out there all day easy, it was great to be able to retreat to the shade for refuge from the Vegas sun. It had all the amenities you would expect from a nice cabana including the stocked fridge, TV, safe and comfy furniture. The service was also incredible with a dedicated waitress plus a host that would handle anything else you need from inside the hotel from getting Starbucks to placing bets at the Sports Book! This is where they earn the prices they are charging for these things. Sadly, we are low-maintenance people and didn't even use our host all day. It was a definitely nice experience and felt great to be the "beach king" for the day but it was expensive especially when it was just the two of us. The best way to do the cabana thing is if you are with a group of people. You get all the benefits of the cabana while splitting the cost between 5 or 6 people making it a much more cost-effective way to go.

Mandalay Bay Cabana

Reviews with room and pool pics for Boulder Station and TI along with a new batch property maps will be posted in the coming days and weeks. I am also feverishly working on a new version of the site that will be rolled out soon with a new look and features. It will be a busy couple of weeks at VegasCasinoInfo.com!

The New and Improved VegasCasinoInfo.com!

To contact us Click HERE

After almost 6 solid months of work, the completely remodeled VegasCasinoInfo.com is finally here! This launch marks a major new period for the site, bringing it to a whole new level on par with any other Vegas site on the Internet. The most obvious change is the entirely new interface including a super-sweet new logo inspired by the "other" famous Vegas sign. In addition to the new look and feel, there are a number of other changes as well.

VegasCasinoInfo.com has existed in one form or another since 1997 largely without any advertising aside from Google ads, it became time to finally add banner advertising to the site. After long thought about how do to it right, I have decided to team up with MGM Resorts, who own 11 hotels on the Strip, to bring their latest room offers directly from the source instead of some unknown 3rd party room reservation service. I have always advocated booking rooms direct due to better cancellation policies and serving MGM's ads made it possible to reinforce that thought.

Quite a few other things have been added or updated as well...

  • There is now a Las Vegas Newswire on the left side which provides links to the latest Vegas news stories from a variety of sources and is updated throughout each day. Get you Vegas news fix all from one place!
  • All of the hotel room and pool slideshows have been redesigned for easier navigation and a better experience.
  • A complete update of hotel amenities and restaurants was completed.
  • A new weekly newsletter with the latest site news and reviews, a recap the week in Las Vegas plus latest unpublished room offers and other exclusive deals.
  • Ramped up the social media presence so you can now follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Blogger.

It has been a privilege to run this site over the past 13+ years and I look forward to this new, exciting era for VegasCasinoInfo.com. A huge thanks to the many frequent guests over the years and welcome to all new visitors who hopefully become frequent guests. Although much has changed, one thing that has not is the reason for why this site exists, one guy's love for Las Vegas. I read and reply to every comment so if you have any thoughts about the site or otherwise, that are even vaguely Vegas related, please feel free to contact me or comment below. As always, thanks for visiting VegasCasinoInfo.com!

Treasure Island Strip View Room Review

To contact us Click HERE

The last night of my stay was in a Strip view room for at Treasure Island. I received a "One Day Sale" email and it indeed had some decent rates. $39 for a regular or $59 for Strip view. Those email signups really pay off sometimes! I haven't stayed at TI since my second trip to Vegas when I was still dirt poor and only had a bed to sleep in because the guy who rented the room didnt come back all weekend! I am no longer broke so I sprung for the extra $20 for the view and ended up on the top floor with awesome view of the Mirage volcano and center Strip.

I arrived around 1:00PM and checked in almost immediately with only about a 30 second wait in line at the Front Desk. The elevators are little bit of a haul from the front desk but closer to just about everything else. The room was a fairly standard newer Vegas room. In a twin queen room there is a combo armoire, desk TV Stand plus another chair and small table. It had been somewhat recently remodeled and everything still looked pretty good, there were no major carpet stains and all of the furniture was in good shape. The bed was the exception as it was pretty saggy. The bathroom has a combo tub/shower and a single vanity. It was also remodeled with stone tile and counter top, although curiously, it looks like they failed slap a coat of paint on the front of the vanity. It looked beat to hell!

Treasure Island itself is probably the smallest of the major Strip casinos in terms of area with everything pretty close by. There is a handful of restaurants including all the Vegas standards; steakhouse, coffee shop, Italian, buffet. There also a Gilley's BBQ, complete with mechanical bull! I only ate at the pizza place and it served up an halfway decent slice at 11:00PM. The location is pretty good as well being across the street from Venetian and Palazzo with a monorail over to Mirage next door. The pool is certainly not in the Top 10 in town but serves it purpose if all you need is sun and water. No review of TI would be complete without a mention of the slutty pirate show, Sirens of TI. Well here it is... I haven't seen it, I have zero desire to see it and I will go out of my way to avoid it. Standing in a packed crowd of people who have been in the Vegas heat all day along with a few pickpockets just to see scantily-clad dancing pirates does not appeal to me.

All in all, my stay at Treasure Island was fairly positive, especially for the price. It has everything you could ask for in a mid-priced Strip hotel in a good location. Like its neighbors, you aren't going to find any good plays at the tables or machines but thats to be expected. Otherwise, TI is a good option for most people especially Vegas virgins and partiers.

The Somewhat Live Trip Report

To contact us Click HERE

Time for another trip and another somewhat Live trip report! I'm hoping to be in town by 4PM at the latest for a night at the Venetian followed a night in the renovated MGM Grand rooms. I will be posting updates here through out each day and even more frequent witty commentary can be found on Twitter @VegasCasinoInfo.

Sunday

11:15 AM - Picked up the rental car at the airport for $23 a day for a full size and made the reservation yesterday. Pretty sweet deal on 24 hours notice!

2:45 PM Despite virtually every moron in So Cal being on the I-15 heading towards Vegas, I still made it in 3.5 hours which is great time. Please tell me how broken you need to be to drive 5 MPH under the speed limit in the left lane and never learn?!?!

3:00 PM - Get to the Front Desk at Venetian and was told that if I wanted my room now, I could have one in the Venezia Tower, which is an ungodly walk to everything at Venetian or a room at Palazzo which is a half mile away from where I was standing. She then said there is a maid in your room now so if you want Venetian "it will 20 minutes tops."

4:30 PM - After eating lunch then standing in the lobby for an hour and getting quite pissed off, I am finally in my room. 5,000 rooms in this joint and it takes this long to clean one? Not a jolly start to the stay at Venetian. I will say that the room is as nice as I remember and the view is fairly decent from the 29th floor.

6:00 PM - Made the mandatory "I didn't die in a fiery wreck" phone calls and washed the Mohave off of me and now its time to get the trip started! Off to South Point for some Video Poker action...

9:00 PM - Back at Venetian licking my wounds. I got my ass handed to me at South Point in one of the worst gambling sessions ever. Spin Poker = Evil!

Monday

2:00 AM - Actually had a pretty decent run downstairs. Played for 4 hours and walked away up 7 cents!

8:30 AM - After a solid 5 hours sleep, time for one of my favorite things: coffee and gambling in a nearly empty casino.

11:00 AM - It was another decent run. 2.5 hours and walked away up nicely for a change!

12:30 PM - I really need to get some food into me. I am the only person on earth who comes to Vegas and DOESN'T eat. Hopefully Grand Lux isn't still packed...

1:30 PM - The bacon cheeseburger at Grand Lux was absolutely incredible. It almost gives the one at Burger Bar a run for its money. This may be my favorite coffee shop in Vegas.

4:30 PM - Checked into one of the newly refurbed rooms at MGM Grand. They are pretty nice, somewhat similar to the ones at Aria though not quite at that level.

6:00 PM - Caught a few minutes of shut eye and got cleaned up and now its over to Hooters for a little cheap table game action.

9:00 PM - Played a little at Hooters which was extremely quiet. That place is definitely more fun on weekends, especially during the summer. Encountered not 1, not 2 but 3 crazies talking to themselves between Hooters and the Strip. Good stuff. Hit NY-NY for a property map and now back at MGM.

Tuesday

12:30 AM - Had a mediocre pastrami sandwich at the Stage Deli for dinner then played for a few hours on a single $20. I wish all sessions went so well! It now time to hit the sack.

8:00 AM - Hit Starbucks for some Go Juice and then one last run at the machines. Shockingly, I had a great run on my final morning which NEVER happens!

10:00 AM - Packing up and heading out. Always very sad... Such a different feeling from 48 hours ago. Fortunately I'll be back in 6 weeks!

11:30 AM - Had to run over to Venetian and check out, which blows. I hate being double booked especially on the last day. Fill up the car and hit the 15 South...

3:15PM - Pull into JOhn Wayne Airport to return the rental car. The trip took just over 3.5 hours including one ultra-short pitstop. The truck traffic wasn't all that terrible and I only had to flip off one truck for being a Massengill. A good ending to an all too short trip. Time to start planning the next one!

Thanks to those of you who followed along here and on Twitter! It has been fun to do the live trip reporting, giving the "blow by blow" of the trip. However, it does take away from the trip a little bit. It was possible to do it since I was solo but definitely would be harder if I was with the wife or friends. Perhaps I'll do something different for the next trip.

Samsung Electronics Announces First Quarter 2012 Earnings Results

To contact us Click HERE

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. today announced revenues of 45.27 trillion Korean won on a consolidated basis for the first quarter ended March 31, 2012, a 22-percent increase year-on-year.

For the quarter, the company’s consolidated operating profit reached an all-time high of 5.85 trillion won representing a 98-percent increase year-on-year. Consolidated net profit for the January-March period was 5.05 trillion won.

Despite a decrease in sales of semiconductor chips and TVs due to seasonal factors, an increase in profitability in display panels and mobile phones pushed up quarterly operating profit margins by 1.7 percentage points to 12.9 percent.

In its earnings guidance disclosed on April 6, Samsung estimated first-quarter consolidated revenues would reach approximately 45 trillion won with consolidated operating profit of approximately 5.8 trillion won.

Samsung’s strong performance in the quarter was driven mainly by the IT & Mobile Communications (IM) segment, which is comprised of four businesses, Mobile Communications, Telecommunication Systems, IT Solutions and Digital Imaging. In particular, solid growth in the Mobile Communications business, with brisk sales of flagship GALAXY Note and GALAXY S II devices contributed to the company’s profitability.

The consolidated operating profit for IT & Mobile Communications businesses reached 4.27 trillion won on revenue of 23.22 trillion won. The Display Panel business rebounded in the first quarter with operating gains of 280 billion won, following an uptick in demand for high-margin panels used in tablets, 3D/ LED TVs and premium OLED panels.

“Despite difficult business environments including seasonal low demand for major products such as PCs and TVs amid a global economic slowdown, we achieved record quarterly results based on our differentiated products and technology leadership. We cautiously expect our earnings momentum to continue going forward, as competitiveness in our major businesses is enhanced,” said Robert Yi, Senior Vice President and Head of Investor Relations.

Looking into the second quarter, Samsung expects to improve profitability in the chip business with a recovery in PC DRAM price and by expanding its new product category with mobile application processors based on 32 nanometer-class process technology. Samsung plans to also bolster its competitive edge in mobile phones with the debut of new high-end smartphones, and by reinforcing the full lineup of products and its presence in emerging markets.

Capex 7.8 Trillion Won in Q1

Capital expenditure in the first quarter was 7.8 trillion won, with 5.8 trillion won invested in the Semiconductor Business and 1.3 trillion won in the Display Panel segment.

Earlier this year, Samsung announced plans to spend a total of 25 trillion won in capex for 2012.

Fifteen trillion won will be invested in the Semiconductor Business that consists of Memory and System LSI. For the Display Panel segment, 6.6 trillion won has been allocated for investment.

Organizational Change

Starting from the first quarter, the business segment financial disclosure will reflect the organizational changes, which took place in December, 2011. We will provide sales and earnings of Device Solutions, including Semiconductor and Display Panel businesses; and Digital Media & Communications, including IT & Mobile Communications and Consumer Electronics (CE) divisions.

IT & Mobile Communications includes Mobile Communications, Telecommunication Systems, IT Solutions and Digital Imaging; and CE includes Visual Display and Digital Appliances.

Seasonal Factors Dampen Chip Demand

Samsung’s Semiconductor Business – including Memory and System LSI – posted an operating profit of 760 billion won in the first quarter. Revenue retreated to 7.98 trillion won on-year, a 13-percent decrease compared with the same period last year.

Weaker-than-expected off-peak season demand and a global supply crunch of HDDs coupled with low demand for PC DRAM chips and the oversupply of mobile DRAM impacted profit margins, in which the memory portion saw its revenue slip to 4.89 trillion won. For NAND, spot price remained weak due to sluggish demand compounded by early stage products from geometry migration flowing into the channel market.

Despite adverse market conditions, Samsung’s chip business was buoyed by strong demand for server DRAM and by expanding our value-added product mix such as products based on the 30-nanometer-class and 20-nanometer-class process technologies.Increased orders for Solid State Drives (SSDs) and Embedded Multimedia Cards (eMMC) also helped the chip business to cushion the market squeeze.

Looking ahead, the global HDD supply shortage is expected to be alleviated in the second quarter and demand for specialty DRAM products including mobile and server DRAMs will be strong. However, elevated competition among manufacturers of 30-nanometer-class chips will lead to a price decline.

In the second quarter, Samsung is poised to ramp up supply of high-capacity, power-efficient DRAM for servers based on our green memory solution. As for NAND, we will spur growth by expanding the 20-nanometer-class portion. Sales of CMOS image sensors will remain high in the April-June quarter, as demand for smartphones equipped with high-resolution cameras is expected to be strong.

Display Business Swings to Profit

Operating profit for the Display Panel Business turned around from the previous quarter to register 280 billion won on revenue of 8.54 trillion won in the first quarter.

Despite traditionally weak seasonality, continued economic stagnation in Europe, and the prolonged supply shortage in the PC industry, the Display Panel Business was able to improve profitability by expanding sales of high-end premium panels such as LED TV and 3D panels, which pushed TV panel sales up in the mid-20 percent range on-year. Increased sales of high-resolution panels for tablet PCs and OLED panels for smartphones also helped boost profit in the quarter.

Looking ahead, although the market for monitor panels will remain stagnant, demand for tablet and notebook panels is expected to increase on seasonal education-related demand while TV panels are expected to lift due to Chinese Labor Day sales and the London Olympics.

Moving forward with the establishment of Samsung Display Corporation, the company will continue to enhance profitability by expanding sales of premium panel products such 3D, large size and LED panels, while smartphone demand is expected to continue to fuel OLED panel sales.

Profits Propped Up by Strong Sales of Smart Devices

The IT & Mobile Communications division – including Mobile Communications, Telecommunication Systems, IT Solutions and Digital Imaging – registered quarterly operating profits of 4.27 trillion won for the first period. Revenue reached 23.22 trillion won, and the mobile unit accounted for 18.90 trillion won, up 86 percent year-on-year.

Growth in shipments of Samsung’s flagship GALAXY Note and GALAXY S II and other premium mobile devices yielded high returns, with significant growth in China, Central and South America, the Middle East and Africa.

Samsung is expected to continue its strong growth momentum in the second quarter, following the announcement of the next GALAXY device in London on May 3.

The Telecommunication Systems business saw growth both in revenue and operating gains due to an increase in LTE (Long Term Evolution) wireless broadband technology equipment. In the case of IT Solutions, a boost in sales of mid-to-high-end products, including PCs and printers improved quarter-on-quarter earnings.

We expect to further solidify our leading position in LTE business in the US market and make further inroads into countries newly adopting the service.

Premium TV Sales Lift Profitability

Samsung’s Consumer Electronics businesses, which encompass Visual Display and Digital Appliances, registered an operating profit of 530 billion won in the quarter, up 550 percent year-on-year, on revenues of 10.67 trillion won.

Although weak seasonality led to a quarter-on-quarter dip in revenue, strong sales of premium TVs in developed markets and LED TVs in emerging markets saw shipments outstrip market growth and drive a sharp increase in profitability. Highlights for the quarter included an increase in sales of more than 50 percent for Samsung’s flagship             7000/8000       TV series on-year, while the Digital Appliances Business improved profitability, both on-year and on-quarter, by increasing its portion of premium product sales.

In the second quarter, market growth for flat panel TVs in the mid-single digits is expected on rising demand in emerging markets and increased sales of LED TVs which are forecast to account for over 60 percent of the TV market in the quarter. In emerging markets, Samsung aims to expand its presence with region-specific LED TV models, while its range of Smart TV models with enhanced features will continue to maintain the company’s leadership in developed markets.

As for digital appliances, demand is expected to rise led by growth in emerging markets. Samsung will aim to improve profitability in the quarter by enhancing R&D efficiencies, expanding sales of premium products and sales in emerging markets, and capitalizing on strong seasonal demand for air conditioners.

Samsung Electronics Co. (005930) overtook Nokia Oyj (NOK1V) as the world’s biggest vendor of mobile phones for the first time, ending the Finnish company’s 14-year run as the global leader, according to an industry study.
Samsung shipped 93.5 million handsets in the first quarter, 36 percent more than a year earlier, compared with 82.7 million for second-ranked Nokia, researcher Strategy Analytics said in a statement today. Demand for Galaxy smartphones helped Suwon, South Korea-based Samsung post first-quarter net income today of 5.05 trillion won ($4.5 billion), beating analysts’ estimates.

Apple Inc. (AAPL) is the world’s third-biggest maker of mobile- phones after shipments rose 89 percent to 35.1 million last quarter, according to Strategy Analytics.
“Samsung will probably still be No. 1 in the second quarter, but the full year will be a close call because the third and fourth quarters are traditionally Nokia’s best,” Kang said.
Samsung also regained the lead from Apple as the world’s biggest vendor of smartphones in the first quarter. Smartphone shipments surged 41 percent in the quarter, the analysts said.
The South Korean electronics maker shipped 44.5 million smartphones in the first three months of the year, giving it about 31 percent of the market, Strategy Analytics said. Apple shipped 35.1 million units, accounting for about 24 percent of the market, it said. Nokia ranked third in the segment.
Windows Phone Sales
Nokia said this month that its new smartphone line using Microsoft Corp. (MSFT)’s Windows Phone platform sold more than 2 million units in the first quarter out of 11.9 million smartphones that Strategy Analytics said the Finnish company had shipped.
Samsung accounted for about 25 percent of the global handset market by shipments, while Nokia’s market share was almost 23 percent, according to Strategy Analytics. Apple’s market share was 9.5 percent, it said.
Global mobile-phone shipments rose 3.3 percent to 368 million last quarter, according to Strategy Analytics.

We just received this specifications and sketch of the device from an insider who got it from the GT-I9300 (most likely the Galaxy S3) official Service Manual.
See the image below!

As you can see the Galaxy S3 will sport a homebutton, and will have a NEW type of Super Amoled screen which will measure 4.8″. According this manual the Processor speed is clocked at 1.5 GhZ, which is strange because Samsung introduced today their 1.4 GhZ Quad-Core processor. If you take a closer look at the front of the device you can see a notification-led on the left-side of the front-speaker, this could be due the wireless charging of the phone, which will be the case according the latest rumors.
Unfortunatly the camera won’t be a 12 mp according this speclist however this could be one of the first service manuals according our inside.

Laudable the Xperia ion LT28i also configured very convenient physical shutter button, but also the Xperia S similar soft material charging hole cover into a more solid material. On the whole, I personally give high the Xperia ion LT28i the appearance of the evaluation.

▲ Xperia ion LT28i mirror screen design, simple and low-key, very nice. ▲ back cover design I drool, part of the upper and lower two non-metallic material is to configure the antenna, but because the sense of symmetry, it will not make people feel very awkward. Rounded, with Founder different styles, but two phone's back cover design I liked. ▲ photos not fun? I also as you are ready to movies, to give readers their first look at a completely thorough yo !

System and run sub-

▲ Sony has always been smoke style, in the main menu interface is the same with the Xperia S. ▲ currently the Xperia ion LT28i with Xperia S as Android 2.3.7 system version on the internal configuration are similar. ▲ App available installation space of about 2GB; management of RAM Oh, the available boot value to 474MB. ▲ Sony's unique offerings of technology in the the Xperia ion LT28i body to see.

Performance run:

The ▲ security Bunny run is divided into 6521, be regarded as a good performance of dual-core machine. ▲ screen support to the touch of 10:00. The Quadrant run is divided into 2958.

In fact, running parts of or reference like, after all, running to points vary with the actual performance of the number of As for the Xperia ion LT28i smoothness kinda makes satisfaction, I also recorded a video to give you a period of actual use trial, take a look .

Music features
Sony's music performance has not let the fans down in the Xperia the ion LT28i who passed down the same good genes, at the interface with the Xperia S, but this part of the sound quality really follow the words to make the narrative, the author simply show a few music interface map to share with you.

China's ZTE Q1 net income trails forecasts

To contact us Click HERE

China's ZTE Corp (0763.HK)000063.SZ, the world's fifth-biggest telecommunications equipment maker, reported weaker-than-expected first-quarter profit following sluggish telecoms spending and price wars.

ZTE and its domestic rival Huawei Technologies Co Ltd HWT.UL have cut prices to grab market share in a slowing global telecoms equipment market, a strategy that has hit profitability, analysts said.

To boost margins, the Shenzhen-based telecoms equipment vendors are now aiming to offer value-added services, focus on network upgrading projects and increase sales of consumer devices such as smartphones and tablet PCs, they said.

Unaudited net income was 150.87 million yuan ($23.92 million) in January to March, compared with 127.29 million yuan a year earlier, ZTE said on Wednesday. That missed an average forecast of 183 million yuan by three analysts polled by Reuters.

Earlier this week, Huawei reported a 53 percent decline in its 2011 profit, even as sales grew 11.7 percent. ZTE said in March that full-year profit had dropped by a third.

"Western vendors would welcome Huawei and ZTE putting greater emphasis on margins," Daryl Schoolar, principal analyst for network infrastructure at research firm Ovum, said in Shenzhen.

"Probably one of the biggest complaints I get when talking to their competitors is that they win business on low prices on very favorable financial terms backed by Chinese banks."

Chinese telecoms equipment makers have received support from policy banks, such as China Development Bank CHDB.UL, in the form of low interest rate loans for network infrastructure projects in emerging economies, according to analysts.

They have also relied on preferential taxes instead of focusing on boosting profitability, analysts say.

Huawei is the world's No.2 vendor, with revenue just a tad behind Sweden's Ericsson (ERICb.ST). Alcatel-Lucent SA (ALUA.PA), Nokia Siemens Networks NOKI.UL and ZTE come next.

In 2011, Huawei's overall gross profit margin fell 6.5 percentage points to 37.5 percent, while ZTE saw a drop of 2.03 percentage points to 30.26 percent with handset margins taking the biggest hit. ZTE did not specify the company's margins in its unaudited first-quarter results.

"It will be better for the overall industry if vendors compete more on services and product development, rather than prices," said George Sun, ZTE's vice president of corporate strategy. ($1 = 6.3073 Chinese yuan)

Max Payne for Android delayed – coming next week

The hit series Max Payne by Rockstar Games is coming to Android in case you haven’t heard. The original Max Payne game in all its glory was slated to be released on Android April 26th (today) like we previously reported, but recently Rockstar has confirmed the game has suffered a slight delay and will be available as soon as possible.

According to @RockstarGames Twitter the Android version has been delayed as they continue to work out a few outstanding issues and they expect the game to launch fully sometime “in the next week or so.” Then a later tweet confirmed a couple of last minute tests and changes were made to make the game become available on as many Android devices as possible.

RockStar Games has already released the amazingly fun Grand Theft Auto III for Android, and later updated it with full Tegra 3 support. Hopefully when the awesome shooter Max Payne lands for Android next week (or so) it will have full support for a variety of phones, including powerful Tegra 3 devices like the Transformer Prime or the HTC One X.

Hopefully the wait won’t be long and it will be here next Thursday instead of today, we’ll update as soon as we hear more details.

Larger Screen Tablets See Higher Level of Content Consumption

Tablet adoption among U.S. consumers continues to climb as more devices appealing to various price and feature preferences are introduced to the market. Screen size is perhaps the most outwardly apparent differentiator between devices, with the market offering consumers a wide variety of options such as the 10″ Apple iPad, 9″ Sony S1, 7″ Amazon Kindle Fire and 5″ Dell Streak. Analysis of page view consumption by screen size found a strong positive association between screen size and content consumption. Specifically, 10″ tablets have a 39-percent higher consumption rate than 7″ tablets and a 58-percent higher rate than 5″ tablets.

Although many factors – such as demographics, content availability, connection speed and ease of portability – may influence consumption levels, the results of this analysis highlight important questions for the industry as the tablet space develops. With the emergence of a growing number of smaller-sized tablet devices, advertisers and publishers will need to understand whether these devices limit the opportunity for advertising compared to their larger-screen counterparts, or if they are able to build incremental reach and engagement by presenting different use cases.

Smartphone Carrier Market Share Shows Variation Across Key States

Among the new capabilities introduced in Device Essentials is the ability to segment data into custom geographies to provide more granular insights into local market device usage. comScore analyzed the share of unique smartphone devices among the top four carriers in the most populous U.S. states and found significant variation between markets. Looking exclusively at the top four carriers, AT&T accounted for the largest share of unique smartphones in Texas (46.2 percent), California (42.9 percent) and Illinois (42.1 percent), while Verizon claimed the top spot in New York (43.6 percent) and Florida (36.5 percent). The greatest disparity in carrier share between AT&T and Verizon occurred in Texas, where AT&T’s smartphone share was more than double that of Verizon’s share.

Sprint PCS ranked as the third largest smartphone carrier in each of the top five markets, with the carrier owning its highest market share in Illinois at 22.8 percent. T-Mobile USA captured its highest market share in Texas, where the carrier accounted for 11.9 percent of smartphone devices.

LG MAKES DYNAMIC VIEWING EXPERIENCE MAINSTREAM WITH NEW IPS MONITORS

IPS4 Monitor Delivers Stunning Picture Quality, Lifelike Color Expression,
Original Color Consistency, Enhanced Viewing Comfort

LG Electronics (LG) announced the availability of a new line of monitors, the IPS4 series. These monitors feature In-Plane Switching (IPS) rather than conventional Twisted Nematic (TN) panels, allowing for superb color reproduction, exceptional picture quality and unmatched color shift-free wide viewing.

Thanks to an impressively wide viewing-angle (178 degrees), the new IPS monitors enable viewers to enjoy superb picture quality without any color shift whether sitting, standing or lying down. Smooth Color Change also eliminates blur generated from rapid motion in action scenes, sports or video games so that viewers feel less eye fatigue even during longer viewing sessions. When all of these technologies are combined, the result is a richer, more comfortable viewing experience.

By boosting color consistency and minimizing color changes, the IPS4 series is able to reproduce original colors, virtually eliminating the gap between what is shot and what is shown. As such, the IPS4 monitors are ideal for anyone engaged in photography or video editing.

“Despite strong sales and dominating the professional market, IPS monitors were less popular with the majority of consumers due to the cost of high-quality IPS panels,” said J.J. Lee, Executive Vice President and Head of IT Business Unit of LG Home Entertainment Company. “With the launch of the affordable IPS4 series, LG is taking a huge step in making IPS monitors ubiquitous in every room.”

A number of easy-to-use functions add to the appeal of the IPS4 series. For instance, the Dual Smart Solution feature uses a simple one-click set-up to run dual monitors, and even creates a dual taskbar and auto-optimized dual web split screen. The Dual Screen feature optimizes the window size to automatically divide the screen to view multiple web pages, making it easier than ever before to multitask online.

Efficiency has also been improved. The monitors are equipped with a cable management design that does away with the messy snarl of wires. The IPS4 series is much more energy-efficient compared to conventional LED monitors without sacrificing picture quality.

LG’s IPS4 series will first become available in Asia in May followed by Europe and North America in the coming weeks.

No longer do we need to thumb our way through an out-of-date travel guide for something that resembles a translation of “Which way to the train station?”. With the Bing Translator app for your Nokia Lumia 610, Nokia Lumia 710, Nokia Lumia 800 and Nokia Lumia 900, you’ll be able to spend more of your holiday-time with your feet up, relaxing.

When you’re looking at a menu, or a sign-post at a train station or airport in a foreign country, trying to understand the unusual arrangement of letters can often lead to stress and confusion. Using the camera option in this app will turn your camera’s viewfinder into a translation tool. It scans the text placed in front of it and swaps the words for ones that you’re more familiar with.

As useful as that is, sometimes you need to get your point across using the spoken word rather than a written one. This is when the voice function comes in very handy.

If you need to ask somebody where the nearest public toilet is, for example, just say it into the phone and you’ll be presented with a written version along with a speaker icon. When pressed this will read out your translated phrase in the language you’ve selected.

Alternatively, if you just want to quickly translate something, it may be easier to type the words in manually. You can do this using the keyboard function. Select what language you’re translating from and to, type in your text and voilà! The text has been deciphered.

In order for the translations to happen, you’ll need an internet connection. While this is all well-and-good in your local country where data costs are probably minimal, it can be a problem when overseas.

There is a solution, though. Bing Translator has the ability to download language packs for a number of countries, so it’s always a good idea to download these before you leave your native country.

Bing Translator is free and is available for your Nokia Lumia 610, Nokia Lumia 710, Nokia Lumia 800 and Nokia Lumia 900.
